So yeah, Borat is from Kazakhstan, but that doesn’t mean the place isn’t cool, and Kazakhstanian advertising firm Good!Creative have this proved this, having come up with some pretty funky paint jobs for motorcycle helmets, of which some examples are below. There are also heaps more over at Good!Creative.

It’s just too bad they aren’t real, it would be very cool to own one. Continue reading »

Formula 1 and Tyres

As Formula 1 fans will be aware tyres are always a hotly debated topic. This season, as they have done for several seasons, Japanese tyre company Bridgestone exclusively supplies tyres to all Formula 1 teams. Bridgestone however earlier in the year gave appropriate notice and announced that are terminating the supply arrangement at the end of the season, leaving Formula 1 with no tyres for the 2011 season, for now.

With no tyre supply arrangement in place for next year the debate is centred around who will supply the tyres, what specification will they be, and will the Formula 1 teams have to pay for them. From the options publicly discussed in the media, I tend to think they all kind of seem to suck, and they suck for one fundamental reason; Formula 1 does not provide any incentive for tyre manufacturers to be involved in Formula 1.

I mean what sort of company wants to manufacture weirdly sized tyres, that only last for about 130 kilometres? Where is the benefit for the manufacturer/s? They need to spend millions of dollars to create custom sized tyres that can only be used on 26 cars worldwide. If manufacturers are going to supply tyres for free, Formula 1 needs to give them something back, and this isn’t happening. Continue reading »

ZipCar – Car Sharing Service

What is Zipcar? Zipcar is a car sharing service; it enables members to use / borrow cars for set periods of time. It’s an alternative to owning a car.

The way Zipcar works is that all Zipcar members have a Zipcard, which is a kind of “smart card”. Once setup with a Zipcard, a member can reserve a car for set periods of time, over the phone or the internet. Once a car is reserved, the member walks to where the car is parked and using their Zipcard unlock the car and drives it away as if it was their own car. When done the member simply returns the car to where they picked it up from, and walks away. That’s it, no need to fuel up the car, pay for maintenance, or insurance – it’s all included in the price. The video below, also explains, albeit in a humorous way. Continue reading »

BMW have unveiled their 18th “Art Car”, which this month will take part in the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans Endurance Race. Based on a tradition started by French racecar driver Hervé Poulain, BMW have been commissioning artists to create “Art Cars” since 1975.

The livery for this year’s car, which is a BMW M3, has been designed by renown American Neo-Pop artist Jeff Koons. The livery is said to be evocative of power, motion and bursting energy. In the past the livery for the Art Car has been designed by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Ken Done. Continue reading »
